Nigeria’s disability sector will turn its attention to Abuja on December 3 as the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Foundation, working with the Office of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and several partner organisations, prepares to convene a major forum on workplace inclusion for persons with disabilities. The event coincides with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, giving added weight to the national conversation on rights, employment and equal opportunity.

The gathering will hold at the Yar’Adua Centre from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and will bring together policymakers, business leaders, civil society groups and representatives of the disability community. Organisers say the forum comes at an important moment for the country. The five year transition period provided under the Disability Act of 2018 has now ended, placing renewed attention on compliance and enforcement.

The theme for this year is Valuable, Driven, Capable. Presentations and panel sessions will examine the obligations of both public and private institutions, especially in relation to the five percent employment quota. Participants are also expected to discuss broader gaps in workplace access and the need for practical measures that support the full participation of persons with disabilities in national development.

A key attraction of the day will be the PWD Talent and Creativity Showcase. Entrepreneurs and artisans will display products and demonstrate skills that reflect the growing enterprise within the disability community. The organisers note that the showcase is designed to highlight potential, build visibility and encourage stronger engagement with the business sector.

PWD owned businesses interested in exhibiting have been invited to submit a business name, logo, product photographs and a short description.

The forum aims to strengthen public understanding, deepen commitment to fair practice and support a more inclusive workplace culture across Nigeria.
